Most Pennsylvania drivers insured by Erie Insurance will see a reduction in their private passenger auto insurance premiums beginning January 1, 1999. Recently approved by the Pennsylvania Insurance Department, the overall statewide effect of the change is a decrease of 7 percent totalling $52.7 million.
Current Erie Insurance policyholders will realize the reduction as their policies renew on or after January 1, 1999. Individual premium changes will vary according to coverages and limits selected. Approximately half of the decrease will be attributed to a new discount extended to Erie's customers with the best claims records.
The Pioneer Experience Rating Credit (PERC) rewards long-term customers for their safe driving records. Policyholders insured by Erie Insurance for three or more years who have the best claims records will be eligible for the PERC discount.
"Our favorable experience in Pennsylvania has allowed us to pass along these savings to our policyholders. This reduction is in The Erie's spirit of providing the best possible insurance at the lowest possible cost," said Stephen A. Milne, President and Chief Executive Office of Erie Insurance Group.
Policyholders insured by Erie Insurance Exchange will see savings amounting to $46.2 million, while Erie Insurance Company policyholders' savings will amount to $6.5 million. Erie Insurance is the second largest writer of private passenger automobile insurance in the Commonwealth with more than 720,000 policies in effect.
