Educating Employees on Workplace Safety Teens and Driving Travel Medical Insurance Kudos! |

The Bureau of Labor Statistics
(BLC) has recently reported that 40% of injuries to workers occur to those
that have been on the job less than one year. What this alarming statistic
tells us is that we need to spend more time educating our newly hired employees
as to their job expectations, responsibilities and duties. We must not stop
there though! We need to make workplace safety a priority.
By skipping this last step, we increase the chance of employee injuries,
due to lack of education and proper safety training. Naturally, this will
take more time and effort on the part of the employer. But in the long run,
your efforts will pay off in the form of reduced absenteeism, lower insurance
costs, and an increase in efficient production.
Employers need to be certain that new employees have a full understanding of all necessary safety measures before they begin their job. Explanations must be clear, concise and more than likely, repeated. Safety procedures, tool use, and job duties should be thoroughly reviewed with the new employee. They must use what they learn, and should rely often on their notes, or your written instructions. Required equipment should be worn consistently and be properly maintained. Supervisors or foremen should be instructed to carefully oversee the new employee during this critical period.
Another area that should not be overlooked is new equipment that has been installed. Training employees on new equipment is just as important to those long-time employees, as it is for those who are newly hired. Even the most experienced employees will need to be taught proper operation of new equipment. The same type of precautions that you take training a new employee should be used when training any employee on new equipment. Revisions to equipment should be demonstrated in the same manner. Literature and safety manuals for the equipment should be kept close by, where it can be quickly and easily located by operators.
The Erie Insurance Loss Control Department is equipped with training and educational materials designed to assist you in your workplace safety efforts. Their specialists can also help you in setting up safety training programs. For further information on workplace safety, please e-mail our agency at info@gcwinsure.com.

Trade barriers are coming down.
People are now traveling more freely between countries for both pleasure
and business. High school and college students are participating in more
educational exchange programs than ever before. Non-U.S. citizens are traveling
outside their countries of citizenship.
As more and more people travel to and live in international destinations, they face health care risks. Very few domestic insurance policies provide the kind of protection necessary in the event of a medical emergency abroad.
If you or your family are planning a trip outside the country, you will want to be certain you have adequate resources to receive prompt, suitable treatment if you find yourself ill or injured. This coverage is available, and can be tailored to fit your travel schedule, from 15 days to 12 months!
Take the uncertainty out of international travel and contact our office for a free brochure and details on the plan. You will find that this coverage is easy to apply for, and is very reasonably priced!
